Scripture:

Romans 12:2 – “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

1 Peter 1:13–15 – “Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be serious and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance. But as the One who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct.”

Devotional Thought:

The Oxford Word of the Year for 2024 was “brain rot.” It describes what happens when our minds are overloaded by endless streams of low-quality digital content—scrolling, streaming, gaming, and constant notifications. The result? Numbness, distraction, and exhaustion.

But the Bible told us this long before Oxford did. Paul warned us: what we fill our minds with forms who we become. When we conform to the world’s rhythms of distraction, our hearts become dull. But God calls us to transformation, to renewal through His Spirit and Word.

If “brain rot” is constant consumption of noise, then renewal is intentional feasting on what is true, lovely, and life-giving. The first step is honesty: What are you really feeding your mind?

Reflection Questions:

  1. What are your top three digital inputs every day (apps, shows, games, news)?
  2. Do they leave you renewed—or just distracted and drained?

Prayer:

Lord, renew my mind. Expose the things I consume that dull my spirit, and awaken a fresh hunger for Your Word and Your ways. Teach me to choose transformation over conformity. Amen.
