Day 4 — Investing in Kingdom Impact

Read

Read 2 Corinthians 9:6–8, 1 Corinthians 16:1–2, and Matthew 6:19–21 slowly.

2 Corinthians 9:6–8 (HCSB)

6 Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each person should do as he has decided in his heart—not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.

1 Corinthians 16:1–2

Paul instructs believers to set aside financial gifts regularly, according to how God has prospered them, so that resources will be available to support the needs of the Church.

Matthew 6:19–21

Jesus teaches His followers not to store up treasures on earth, where they can be destroyed or stolen, but to store up treasures in heaven. He reminds them that where their treasure is, their heart will be also.

Reflect

Throughout this week, we've talked about what it means to champion the local church. We've considered the importance of standing shoulder-to-shoulder, supporting one another, and recognizing the countless ordinary people God uses to move the gospel into our communities.

Yesterday, we looked at the men and women of the New Testament who faithfully supported the early Church. Some opened their homes. Others served, taught, delivered letters, encouraged leaders, or risked their own safety to help advance the gospel.

And many also gave financially to support the work God was doing.

As we consider what it means to champion the church today, we have to recognize that Church Champions support and defend the vision and mission of the church through their time, talents, and treasure.

The church absolutely needs people, and it needs provision.

When we first set out to plant Kairos nine years ago, we received financial support from our denomination and sending church for the first year. We could not have launched without the generosity of churches, pastors, and congregations who had gone before us and were willing to give so that another church could be planted.

Since then, for eight years, Kairos has been a self-sustaining church.

That means our entire operating budget, including staff, building lease, utilities, ministry expenses, events, and even the free coffee and donuts we enjoy on Sundays, has been supported through the faithful giving of our church family.

We don't have outside financial support covering those expenses.

And without the faithful tithes and financial gifts of our church, we would be unable to continue carrying out our mission in the ways we do today.

That's something worth recognizing and celebrating.

When people become excited and engaged in the mission of the church, when they believe in what the church stands for, see the impact it's having, and desire to see it thrive, they naturally begin looking for ways to support it.

For some, that means giving their time through serving. For others, it means using their talents to teach, lead, encourage, or help meet practical needs. And for all of us, it includes considering how we faithfully steward the financial resources God has entrusted to us.

Paul reminds the Corinthians that giving should be done willingly, not reluctantly or out of pressure. Each person is to give as they have decided in their heart, trusting God and responding with generosity.

God isn't simply interested in the amount we give. He's interested in the heart behind our giving.

When we give to support the local church, we're not simply paying for a building, utilities, or programs. We're investing in the mission of the church and the opportunities it creates for people to encounter Jesus.

We're helping provide for the families who work in ministry, supporting the ministries that disciple children, students, and adults, and partnering with organizations that serve people throughout our community.

Our financial gifts become part of the work God is doing through His Church.

And as we celebrate what God has done over the past nine years, we also have to consider what He may be preparing us to do next.

We've been incredibly thankful for every space God has provided for Kairos. Each building has given us opportunities to worship, serve, grow, and reach our community.

But we also have a deep longing to have a permanent church home.

In March 2025, we launched our three-year Boldly Go campaign, inviting our church family to prayerfully consider giving above and beyond their regular giving to help us purchase property or a building that could become the future home of Kairos.

Our church family pledged approximately $400,000 over three years. Since then, we've received significant gifts toward that goal, but our monthly campaign giving has decreased, and we still have a considerable distance to go before we're financially positioned to purchase a permanent home.

Some families have moved away. Others have experienced financial difficulties. And for some, circumstances have changed since they first made their commitments.

Those are real situations, and we recognize that giving will look different for every family and every season of life.

But the vision remains.

We desire a permanent space where we can continue worshiping, serving, discipling, and engaging our community with the gospel. A place where ministries can grow, families can gather, children and students can be discipled, and future generations can continue experiencing the life-changing message of Jesus.

And that vision will require us to continue standing shoulder-to-shoulder, faithfully giving our time, talents, and treasure.

Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6 that where our treasure is, our heart will be also.

That's worth considering because the things we invest in often reveal what we value most.

When we believe in something, when we're passionate about its mission and desire to see it thrive, we look for opportunities to support it in the ways we're able.

And when we invest in the mission of the Church, we're investing in something with eternal significance.

We give because we believe in what Jesus is doing through His Church, and we desire to see that work continue for generations to come.

Respond

Consider the three ways we champion the church: time, talents, and treasure.

How are you currently investing each of these in the mission of your local church? Are there areas where you've been actively participating and others where you may have become less engaged?

When you think about your financial giving, what most influences your decisions? Is it simply what remains after other expenses, or is supporting the mission of the Church something you prayerfully and intentionally prioritize?

Paul encourages believers to give willingly and cheerfully, according to what they've decided in their hearts. How does that instruction challenge or encourage the way you approach generosity?

Think about the people and ministries supported through the faithful giving of your church family. How might remembering the lives being impacted change the way you view your financial contributions?

Today's challenge: Prayerfully evaluate how you're investing your time, talents, and treasure in the local church. Consider whether God may be leading you to begin giving regularly, become more consistent in your generosity, or support the future of Kairos through the Boldly Go campaign.

You can learn more about the campaign at kairos.church/boldlygo.

Whatever your circumstances, remember that faithful generosity begins with a willing heart and a desire to honor God with what He's entrusted to you.

Pray

Lord, thank You for everything You've provided and for the opportunity to participate in the work You're doing through Your Church. Thank You for the faithful generosity of those who have gone before us and for the countless people who continue sacrificing their time, talents, and resources to help advance the gospel. Help me recognize that everything I have ultimately comes from You and that I am called to steward it faithfully. Give me a generous heart that is motivated by love, gratitude, and a desire to see others come to know Jesus. Provide for the needs of our church family and give wisdom to those leading and making decisions about our future. As we continue praying and planning for a permanent home for Kairos, help us trust Your provision while faithfully doing our part. May our generosity always point people to Jesus and bring glory to Your name. Amen.
