Scripture: Mark 1:35 – “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He got up, went out, and made His way to a deserted place; and He was praying there.”
Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Devotional Thought:
In a world addicted to noise, stillness feels unnatural—even uncomfortable. A recent study revealed that many people would rather shock themselves with electricity than sit alone in silence for 15 minutes. That’s how deeply our culture fears quiet.
But Jesus modeled a different rhythm. With crowds pressing in, demands rising, and His ministry exploding, He withdrew to deserted places—not just to escape, but to listen to the Father.
Listening to God requires intentional silence. It means pushing past the urge to scroll, check, or fill the gap with noise. It means learning to quiet both the external distractions (devices, conversations, media) and the internal chatter (worry, self-doubt, overthinking).
When we practice stillness, we train our hearts to hear God’s voice. And what He speaks brings life, guidance, and renewal that no notification or newsfeed ever can.
Reflection Questions:
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to be still. I confess that I often drown out Your voice with noise and distraction. Quiet my mind. Calm my spirit. Help me to listen—not just with my ears but with my heart. May I hear Your guidance and walk in step with You. Amen.
Daily Practice:
Take 15 minutes of silence today—no phone, no music, no tasks. Sit in solitude with God. Don’t rush to fill the space; simply be still and invite Him to speak.
