Scripture

Luke 3:15–16, 18

“Now the people were waiting expectantly… John answered them all, ‘I baptize you with water, but One is coming who is more powerful than I. I’m not worthy to untie the strap of His sandals…’ Then, along with many other exhortations, he proclaimed good news to the people.”

Reflection

John drew huge crowds. People wondered if he might be the Messiah. He easily could’ve played into that. Instead, he made it clear — “I’m not the One you’re looking for.”

John’s whole purpose was to point people away from himself and toward Jesus. His influence, his ministry, his following — all of it served one goal: prepare people to meet the Savior.

There’s freedom in that posture. We’re not responsible for saving anyone. We’re not the light. We point to the Light. John held his role with humility and conviction, and because he did, many were ready to recognize Jesus when He stepped onto the scene.

Application

Think about the people God has placed around you — family, friends, neighbors, coworkers. Some of them may already be wondering about faith. Some may be searching quietly.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I see my influence as a way to point people to Jesus?
  • How can I make Jesus, not myself, the center of what I share?

A simple testimony. A gentle word of truth. An invitation to church. A moment of honesty about what Jesus has done in your life. These small acts shift the focus toward the One who actually changes hearts.

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for being the One who saves. Help me remember that my role isn’t to impress but to point people toward You. Keep me humble, clear, and willing. Use my words and actions to help someone recognize You when You meet them. Amen.
