Scripture:
Ephesians 5:8–9 – “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light— for the fruit of the light results in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.”
Devotional Thought:
Light doesn’t just change how we see—it changes how we live.
When Paul tells believers to “walk as children of light,” he’s reminding us that our lives are meant to reveal the presence of Jesus to the world around us.
Your words, your tone, your patience, your reactions—all of it reflects something.
Every follower of Jesus becomes a mirror, reflecting what they’re most exposed to.
If we spend our days immersed in the light of devices, our reflections will often carry the shadows of comparison, cynicism, and pride.
But when we spend time in the light of Christ, our reflections begin to look more like grace, peace, humility, and truth.
The light of Jesus doesn’t just expose sin; it empowers righteousness.
It doesn’t only show what’s wrong; it shows what’s right.
And here’s the key: reflection is not imitation—it’s transformation.
We don’t try harder to look like Jesus; we stay closer to Jesus, and His light naturally begins to change our reflection.
So today, ask yourself: what does my reflection reveal?
Are people seeing the stress, sarcasm, and distraction of the world?
Or the hope, compassion, and faith of Christ?
Remember, you can’t reflect what you don’t first receive.
Exposure always determines reflection.
Reflection Questions:
Prayer:
Father, thank You for calling me out of darkness into Your marvelous light.
Teach me to walk as a child of light—reflecting Your goodness, righteousness, and truth.
Let my life reveal Your presence in every conversation, every action, and every choice. Amen.
Daily Practice:
Take five minutes today to write down the “light fruits” you want to grow in—goodness, righteousness, and truth.
Then pray specifically for one situation where you can reflect each of these.
Example: show goodness to a stranger, live righteously in a difficult moment, or speak truth in love.
