Scripture:
Colossians 3:9–10 – “Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your Creator.”
Devotional Thought:
When Paul says, “put off the old self” he’s describing removal. It’s not just a gentle step away from old habits—it’s taking them off like dirty clothes and refusing to put them back on. But notice this: removal is not the end goal. Renewal is.
God doesn’t simply call us to stop scrolling, quit numbing ourselves, or abandon sin. He calls us to something better: a renewed mind, a renewed spirit, and a life that reflects Jesus.
That’s the power of the gospel—Jesus doesn’t just remove guilt, shame, and distraction. He renews us into the likeness of God. Every step of surrender, every distraction silenced, every idol laid down creates space for Him to fill you with peace, purpose, and power.
Reflection Questions:
Prayer:
Father, thank You that in Jesus, I don’t just leave behind sin and distraction—I gain a new self. Teach me to daily put off the old and put on the new. Let my mind be renewed and my life reflect Your image more each day. Amen.
Daily Practice:
Choose one distraction or idol to “remove” this week—whether it’s turning off a specific notification, deleting an app, or setting a time limit. Then, replace that time with a renewing practice: prayer, worship, Scripture, or journaling.
