Scripture:

John 8:12 – Then Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.”

Devotional Thought:

Every day, whether we realize it or not, we are reflecting something.

The question isn’t if we’re reflecting—but what and who.

For most of us, the first light we see in the morning isn’t the sunrise—it’s the glow of a device. That soft blue-white light immediately floods our eyes, filling our minds with notifications, news, and noise. It sets the tone for our thoughts, emotions, and even our conversations.

But what if that light we expose ourselves to daily has been subtly shaping the reflection of our lives?

What if, instead of reflecting the Divine Light of Christ, we’ve begun reflecting the device light of culture?

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” His light isn’t artificial—it’s supernatural. It doesn’t just illuminate our faces; it transforms our hearts. It exposes sin, reveals truth, and gives life.

The light of your device can brighten your surroundings, but it can never brighten your soul. It imitates connection but cannot restore it. It mimics peace but cannot sustain it. It flatters your image but cannot form your identity.

If we want to live as children of light, we must choose our exposure carefully. Because exposure determines reflection.

When you spend time in the light of Christ—through prayer, Scripture, worship, and community—your life begins to mirror His character.

But when your days are filled more with the light of screens than the light of the Savior, your reflection inevitably starts to dim.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What source of light are you most exposed to each day—your device or your Savior?
  2. How has that exposure shaped your mood, your thoughts, or your reflection of Jesus to others?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, You are the true Light of the world. Expose the areas of my life that have been dimmed by distractions and counterfeit lights. Help me to reflect You in my thoughts, my words, and my habits. May Your light transform every part of me. Amen.

Daily Practice:

Begin your day with Divine Light exposure before digital light exposure.

Before you check your phone, open the Word. Read John 1:1–9 and spend five quiet minutes thanking Jesus for being your light today.
