Scripture
Isaiah 9:2, 6–7
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness. For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us… He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace… He will reign… with justice and righteousness from now on and forever.”
Reflection
Israel lived with a long, aching hope for a Messiah. Their wish list wasn’t filled with things. It was filled with a person. Someone who would bring light to their darkness and restore what was broken.
Christmas is full of anticipation for us too. Gifts, gatherings, good moments. But at the center of Scripture we see a deeper anticipation — a Savior who was promised long before anyone prayed for Him. The plan for redemption was already in motion.
Isaiah describes a people waiting in the dark. Many of us know what that feels like. Yet God’s promise didn’t depend on their strength or their timing. The Light came because God had already decided to give the world the gift it needed most.
Application
Take a moment today to think about what you’re truly hoping for this season. Not the wrapped gifts or the plans on the calendar, but the deeper things — peace, healing, direction, forgiveness, restored relationship with God.
Ask yourself:
Let this season shift your wish list from things to the One who brings lasting peace.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for sending Jesus, the Light we needed long before we knew how to ask for Him. Where I feel darkness, bring Your peace. Where I feel worn out, bring Your strength. Help me set my hope not on what I want, but on who You are. Make my heart ready to receive the gift of Your Son again today. Amen.
