Scripture:
“The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.’” — Genesis 2:18
Devotional Thought:
Long before Moses floated in a basket or Jesus lay in a manger, God made a bold declaration in the Garden: “It is not good for man to be alone.” The solution wasn’t to create a servant or a backup—it was to create a partner, a protector, a life-giver.
The Hebrew word used for “helper” in Genesis is ezer—the very same word used elsewhere in the Old Testament to describe God Himself as our help and defense. This means that God designed women not as afterthoughts, but as essential to life, leadership, and protection.
This identity hasn’t changed.
Throughout Scripture, God entrusts women with crucial roles in His redemptive plan. Women who love, who nurture, who step in. Women who speak truth, guard futures, and protect what God is growing—whether in the home, in ministry, or in a broken world.
This week, we reflect on the signs of women—not just what they’ve done, but who they are: bearers of life, carriers of purpose, and defenders of the vulnerable. And that story doesn’t begin in Exodus... it begins in Eden.
Reflection Question:
Do you see yourself—or the women around you—as part of God’s plan to protect and carry life forward? What false messages about your role or worth might need to be unlearned this week?
Prayer:
God, thank You for creating women with purpose, strength, and value. Help me see Your original design clearly—not through culture’s confusion but through Your truth. Teach me to honor and reflect the care, love, and protection You’ve called us to live out. In Jesus’ name, amen.
