reminder #3 – desire grows where gratitude dies
Read Scripture: Genesis 2:8–9; 3:6
(God provided Adam and Eve with everything they needed in the garden—every tree that was pleasing and good for food. Yet Eve focused on the one thing withheld, and desire grew where contentment was lost.)
Reality: Desire becomes dangerous when gratitude disappears. Eve was surrounded by God’s provision, yet her attention shifted to what she didn’t have. What was once enough no longer felt like enough. That’s how temptation grows. When you stop recognizing what God has already provided, your heart begins to crave what He has withheld. Discontentment fuels desire—and unchecked desire will pull you toward sin.
Response:
Where has your focus shifted from what God has given to what He hasn’t?
What in your life are you no longer grateful for?
How is discontentment shaping your thoughts or decisions right now?
Reaction:
Pause and name three things God has already provided today. Thank Him for them out loud. Shift your focus back to what is good and given. Starve the desire by feeding gratitude.
Reinforcement: James 1:14–15 – “But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desire. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin…”
DON’T LET DESIRE GROW UNCHECKED—CUT IT OFF AT THE ROOT.
