Scripture:
Matthew 24:3–8- "What is the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?” Jesus replied... 'Watch out that no one deceives you... You are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars... These are the beginning of birth pains.’”
Devotional:
The disciples asked Jesus a question many of us still ask today: “What will be the sign?” They wanted to know when He would return and what to watch for.
Jesus answered—but not the way they expected. He didn’t give them a date. He didn’t give them a countdown. He gave them a warning: Don’t be deceived. Don’t panic. Stay faithful.
Every generation has looked around and thought, “This must be the end.”
• Roman oppression
• Plagues
• World wars
• 9/11
• Global pandemics
And yet, we’re still here. And the question remains: are we watching for the wrong signs?
Jesus made it clear in Matthew 24:14:
“This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world… and then the end will come.”
So before we look up to the sky in fear, we need to look out to the world in faith.
There are still billions who haven’t heard the gospel. The end will come—but not before the message of Jesus reaches all people.
Let’s not be so obsessed with prophecy that we forget our purpose.
The greatest sign has already come—the risen Savior.
And He told us exactly what to do in the meantime:
“Go and make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28:19)
Prayer:
Jesus, help me not to miss what matters most. I don’t want to be consumed by speculation—I want to be driven by purpose. You rose from the grave. You are the sign. Let me live today in the power of that truth. Help me point others to You. Amen.
