HOLY IN SPIRIT

Scripture

John 6:28–29 -“What can we do to perform the works of God?” they asked.

Jesus replied, “This is the work of God—that you believe in the One He has sent.”

Romans 4:5 -
“But to the one who does not work, but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited for righteousness.”

Slow Read (Lectio-style Belief Focus)

Read John 6:28–29 three times, slowly.

  • First reading: Notice the crowd’s assumption about work.

  • Second reading: Notice how Jesus reframes work as belief.

  • Third reading: Sit with this phrase:This is the work of God…

Remain silent for one full minute. Let belief replace striving.

Heart Questions

  • Where do I treat my relationship with God like a performance?

  • What do I rely on to feel spiritually secure—effort, knowledge, discipline, or grace?

  • Do I truly believe that belief itself is the work God desires?

Let the Spirit dismantle self-reliance gently.

Spiritual Insight

The crowd wants a checklist. Jesus gives them a person. They ask, “What must we do?”

Jesus answers, “Believe.” Belief is not passive—it is surrender. It is the moment we stop trying to feed ourselves and receive what only Christ can give. Spiritual hunger cannot be satisfied by religious effort. Only Jesus satisfies.

Prayer

Jesus, I confess how often I equate effort with faith and discipline with devotion. Today, I lay down my need to earn what You freely give. Teach me to rest in belief instead of striving for approval. I believe You are enough. I believe Your work is sufficient. I receive what You have already done for me. Amen.

WHOLE IN MIND

Name the Striving

Take 2–3 minutes and ask: Where am I trying to earn what God has already given?”

Striving reveals misplaced trust.

HEALTHY IN BODY

The Fasted Exchange

Continue your fasted practice this week.

If hunger surfaces today:

  1. Pause instead of reaching for food

  1. Pray briefly

  2. Read one verse of Scripture

Say quietly: “Jesus, You are my bread.”

Closing Posture

The work God desires is not exhaustion—it is belief.

Stop striving to be filled.

Receive the Bread that satisfies.
