Scripture:

2 Peter 3:9 – “The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.”

Devotional Thought:

It’s one of the most honest questions believers ask:

“Why hasn’t Jesus come back yet?”

When we look at the world—at the brokenness, the violence, the corruption—it’s easy to feel ready for the return of Jesus. We think, “Lord, what are You waiting for?”

But 2 Peter gives us the answer: God isn’t slow… He’s patient.

His delay isn’t a delay—it’s grace.

Every new day is another opportunity for someone to repent, to turn to Jesus, and to be saved.

What we see as a delay, God sees as an open door.

So maybe the better question isn’t, “Why hasn’t Jesus come back yet?”

Maybe it’s, “Who in my life is God waiting for?”

Who is He giving another day… another chance… to hear the Gospel?

Reflection Questions:

  1. Who in your life doesn’t yet know Jesus?
  2. How does God’s patience with the world challenge your urgency?
  3. What would change if you saw every day as another shot at someone’s salvation?

Prayer:

God, thank You for Your patience. You waited for me—and now You’re waiting for others I love. Help me see Your delay not as distance, but as mercy. Show me who I need to talk to, love, or pray for today. Give me boldness and compassion. Amen.
