REMINDER #22 – TRUST GOD’S PLAN OVER SELF-PRESERVATION
Read Scripture: Matthew 4:5–7
(Satan tempts Jesus to throw Himself from the temple to prove God’s protection. Jesus refuses, choosing not to test God or take control of the outcome.)
Reality: The wilderness will tempt you to protect yourself instead of trusting God’s plan. Jesus was offered a way to prove God’s care and avoid uncertainty—but it required stepping outside of obedience. The temptation wasn’t just about safety—it was about control. “Make sure you’re okay. Take matters into your own hands. Avoid the risk.” And that same pressure shows up when we try to control outcomes, avoid discomfort, or force clarity. But self-preservation often leads us outside of God’s will. Trusting God’s plan means surrendering control—even when the path feels uncertain.
Response:
Where are you trying to control an outcome instead of trusting God?
What situation are you trying to avoid, escape, or manipulate?
What would it look like to surrender control and trust God’s plan?
Reaction: Identify where you are trying to control the outcome. Release the need to protect yourself at all costs. Refuse to manipulate situations to feel secure. Trust God’s plan, even when it feels uncertain.
Reinforcement: Proverbs 3:5–6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding…”
GOD’S WAY IS BETTER THAN YOUR CONTROL—TRUST HIM TO LEAD.
2x2 Check:
Tell your 2x2 where you’re trying to control things—and commit to trusting God instead.
