HOLY IN SPIRIT
John 13:14–16 - “So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done for you. I assure you: A servant is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him.”
John 14:12 - “I assure you: The one who believes in Me will also do the works that I do.”
Slow Read (Posture Before Works)
Read John 13:14–16 three times, slowly.
• First reading: Notice who is speaking — Lord and Teacher.
• Second reading: Notice what He is doing — kneeling.
• Third reading: Sit with this phrase: “A servant is not greater than his master.”
Remain silent for one full minute.
Let humility settle before activity begins.
Heart Questions
|
Reflection |
|
Do I want to do “great works” without embracing humble posture? |
|
Is there any role I consider beneath me? |
|
Do I see serving as optional — or essential evidence of belief? |
Let the Spirit expose pride gently.
Spiritual Insight
Before Jesus ever told His disciples they would do the works He did, He showed them what those works look like. Teaching with authority. Healing the sick. Feeding the masses. Raising the dead. And kneeling to wash feet. The assurance of works in John 14:12 is not about platform — it is about posture. Jesus came to serve and to do the will of the Father. His works were rooted in surrender, submission, sacrifice, selflessness, and humility. Putting God before self. Putting others before self. Serving is not the next “program” in the progression — it is the natural outflow of follow, believe, hear, hunger, and yield. Once a man has died to himself, he becomes usable. Works are not performance. They are evidence.
Prayer
Father, Before I ask to be used, teach me to kneel.
Before I ask for influence, teach me humility.
Before I desire visible works, form in me a servant’s heart.
Guard me from pride disguised as calling.
Make my posture match my confession.
If my Master knelt, then so will I.
Amen.
WHOLE IN MIND — Examine the Posture
Take 2–3 minutes and ask:
“What is my internal reaction when asked to serve in small or unseen ways?”
Do I feel:
Posture precedes obedience.
HEALTHY IN BODY — Practice the Posture
Today is about embodying humility physically.
Choose one posture of serving that requires you to lower yourself — literally or practically.
|
Practice |
|
Kneel in prayer for 5 uninterrupted minutes |
|
Clean something that no one will notice |
|
Pick up trash that isn’t yours |
|
Do a task usually “beneath” your role |
|
Let someone else take credit |
When you do it, don’t rush.
Let your body feel the lowering.
Say quietly:
“A servant is not greater than his master.”
Serving begins in the body before it shows up in the works.
Closing Posture
Jesus did not assert authority on the night before His crucifixion.
He knelt.
Works begin where pride ends.
And humble posture is the first evidence that the Spirit is at work.
