HOLY IN SPIRIT
Scripture
John 6:26–27 - “I assure you: You are looking for Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate the loaves and were filled.
Don’t work for the food that perishes but for the food that lasts for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal of approval on Him.”
Deuteronomy 8:3 -“He humbled you by letting you go hungry… so that you might learn that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”
Slow Read (Lectio-style Hunger Awareness)
Read John 6:26–27 three times, slowly.
First reading: Notice why the crowd is seeking Jesus.
Second reading: Notice what Jesus says they are working for.
Third reading: Sit with this phrase: “Don’t work for the food that perishes…”
Remain silent for one full minute. Let the Spirit expose misplaced hunger.
Heart Questions
What do I most often ask Jesus for?
Where do I expect Jesus to satisfy physical or circumstantial needs more than spiritual ones?
Am I seeking Jesus for what He can give—or for who He is?
Let these questions reveal desire, not induce guilt.
Spiritual Insight
Jesus does not condemn the crowd for being hungry.
He confronts what they hunger for.
Physical food always runs out.
Spiritual food sustains forever.
Jesus did not come merely to fill stomachs—
He came to rescue souls, reconcile hearts, and give eternal life.
The problem is not hunger.
The problem is misplaced hunger.
Prayer
Jesus, I confess how easily I come to You wanting relief, comfort, or provision before surrender, transformation, or righteousness. Today, reveal what truly drives my prayers and pursuits. Expose the places where I work hardest for what cannot last. Redirect my hunger toward what only You can give. Teach me to desire eternal nourishment over temporary satisfaction. You are the food that lasts. Amen.
WHOLE IN MIND
Name the Hunger
Take 2–3 minutes and answer honestly:
“What do I turn to most often for comfort, relief, or satisfaction?”
What you crave shapes what you pursue.
HEALTHY IN BODY
The Fasted Exchange
Once this week—today if possible—skip one meal (or intentionally reduce it).
When hunger appears: Do not distract yourself immediately. Do not rush to replace it.
Instead: Pause. Pray. Open Scripture—even briefly
Say quietly: “Jesus, You are my bread.”
Closing Posture
Hunger reveals dependency. Jesus invites you to exchange temporary fullness for eternal satisfaction. He does not shame hunger— He redirects it.
