Scripture: “We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” — 2 Peter 1:16

Devotional Thought:

In court, the strongest form of evidence is still the eyewitness. The same is true in our faith. One of the most compelling reasons to believe the gospel is the fact that so many people — not just one or two — claimed to see Jesus, follow Jesus, and were forever changed by Him.

Sunday’s message walked us through the powerful reality of the eyewitnesses:

  • The four Gospels — Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John — written by men who either saw it themselves or directly interviewed those who did.
  • The book of Acts — a historical record of the early church, full of firsthand events.
  • Paul’s letters — testimony from a man who once killed Christians… until he encountered the risen Christ.

Even more shocking: people like James (Jesus’ own brother, who thought He was crazy) and Paul (the persecutor of Christians) didn’t just believe — they led the Church and died for their faith.

These weren’t fairy tales. These were personal encounters. These were people who couldn’t deny what they saw — even when it cost them everything.

And the same is true for us. While we may not have walked the roads of Galilee, our stories, our encounters with Jesus, our changed lives… they still speak.

Reflect:

  • Have you ever thought about the Gospels as legal eyewitness testimony?
  • What stands out to you about the transformation of people like Paul or James?

Action Step:

Open your Bible to 1 Corinthians 15:3–8 — Paul’s early confession of the gospel and the resurrection.

Make note of how many people saw the risen Jesus. Think about how radical it was for a man like Paul to write those words — and why that matters when sharing your faith with someone today.

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You that You didn’t just appear — You allowed Yourself to be seen, heard, and followed. Thank You for the eyewitnesses who shared what they experienced, even when it cost them their lives. Help me honor their faith by sharing my own testimony with boldness and truth. Amen.
