Scripture:

Genesis 15:2-4

Abram said, “Lord God, what can You give me, since I am childless… You have given me no offspring.”

Now the word of the Lord came to him: “This one will not be your heir; instead, one who comes from your own body will be your heir.”

Devotional:

This week we’re exploring the powerful story of Abraham—specifically focusing on the sacrifice of Isaac. But before we dive into that dramatic scene, we need to understand Abraham's journey: the waiting, the doubting, and the struggle that preceded it.

When God first promised Abram that he’d become a great nation, Abram was 75 years old and childless. Time passed—years turned to decades—and still no child. Abraham and Sarah grew impatient and took matters into their own hands, resulting in Ishmael. Their impatience led to disobedience, and disobedience created unnecessary pain and conflict.

Waiting on God's promises can be one of the toughest tests of faith we face. Like Abraham, we can become frustrated or weary in waiting, tempted to create our own solutions rather than trust God’s timing. Yet, God's promise never fails—even if His timing differs vastly from ours.

Today, reflect on where you might be tempted to rush ahead of God’s plan because you’re tired of waiting. Remember: God's promises come with His perfect timing, not ours.

Questions for Reflection:

  1. In what areas of your life are you impatiently waiting for God’s promises?
  2. How can you actively trust God’s timing today, rather than forcing your own solutions?

Prayer:

Lord, waiting is so hard. Sometimes I doubt Your promises and become impatient with Your timing. Forgive me when I try to take control instead of trusting You. Help me wait patiently, faithfully believing that You will fulfill Your promises exactly when and how You intend. In Jesus' name, amen.

Daily Application:

Write down a specific promise you’re waiting on from God. Spend five minutes in prayer today, surrendering your impatience to Him and asking for increased faith and patience. Choose to trust that His timing is better than yours.
