HOLY IN SPIRIT
Scripture
John 21:16–17 — A second time He asked him, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said to Him, “You know that I love You.”
“Shepherd My sheep,” He told him.
He asked him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”
Peter was grieved that He asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?”
“Lord, You know everything! You know that I love You.”
“Feed My sheep,” Jesus said.
Ephesians 4:15–16 — “…speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into Him who is the head—Christ.”
Slow Read (Love Expressed Through Care)
Read John 21:16–17 three times slowly.
Remain silent for one full minute. Let love move beyond feeling into action.
Heart Questions
Let the Spirit expand your focus outward.
Spiritual Insight
Jesus does not ask Peter about knowledge, gifting, or readiness—only love. Love becomes the qualification for discipleship work. Peter is not fully perfected when Jesus commissions him; he is restored and willing. Feeding others does not require spiritual completion but spiritual dependence. The church would soon grow through imperfect people strengthening imperfect people under the guidance of a perfect Savior. Discipleship is not reserved for experts—it belongs to followers who love Jesus enough to care for His people. God uses our strengths to nourish others while simultaneously refining our weaknesses.
Prayer
Jesus,
You have fed me through Your Word, Your Spirit, and Your people.
Help me now to care for others with the same patience You show me.
Keep pride far from my serving and comparison far from my heart.
Teach me to shepherd gently, encourage faithfully, and serve humbly.
Let my love for You overflow into care for others.
Amen.
WHOLE IN MIND — From Consumer to Contributor
Shift the Question
Take 2–3 minutes and reflect:
Instead of asking:
“What am I getting spiritually?”
Ask:
“Who am I helping grow spiritually?”
Write one response:
“I can help feed others by __________.”
Maturity begins when faith becomes outward-facing.
HEALTHY IN BODY — Make Space to Serve
Feeding others requires margin.
Today, create physical space in your schedule for someone else.
Choose one adjustment:
|
Crowded Pattern |
Serving Adjustment |
|
Overpacked schedule |
Leave intentional margin |
|
Personal-only downtime |
Invest time in someone |
|
Convenience-driven plans |
Choose availability |
|
Isolation after work |
Engage community |
|
Passive attendance |
Active participation |
Block time intentionally—even if small.
As you do, pray:
“Lord, make my life available for others.”
Discipleship requires presence.
Closing Posture
Jesus did not say: “Perfect yourself.”
He said: Feed My sheep.
Love for Christ always becomes care for people.
