Scripture:
Genesis 1:3 – “Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”
John 1:1,4–5 – “In the beginning was the Word… In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.”
Devotional:
God’s first act in creation wasn’t building mountains or forming animals—it was speaking light into the darkness. That moment wasn’t just the beginning of creation; it was the beginning of the gospel.
From Day One, God was already telling the story of Jesus. The light He created is more than physical. It represents salvation, a divine foreshadowing of Jesus, the Light of the World.
Before He created anything else, God made a way to separate light from darkness—not just in nature, but in us. John’s Gospel makes it clear: that light is Christ. The same Word that was with God in the beginning is the Word that would become flesh.
And this gives creation deep, personal meaning. You weren’t created by accident. You were created in a world where God had already planned salvation, already made provision, already set the light in place.
So before God formed your face, He made a way for your soul.
Questions for Reflection:
Prayer:
God, thank You that from the beginning, You had a plan to rescue us. Thank You for speaking light into the chaos—then and now. Help me to walk in that light today. Remind me that Your salvation was not an afterthought; it was built into the story from the very first breath. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Daily Application:
Go outside and observe light—sunshine, a candle, a lamp. Reflect on how light changes everything it touches. Take 60 seconds of silence to ask God to shine His light into any area of darkness in your life. Then ask Him to help you be a light for someone else today.
