Scripture:

Genesis 14:11–12, 16

"The four kings took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah... They also took Abram’s nephew Lot and his possessions... [Abram] brought back all the goods and also his relative Lot and his possessions..."

Devotional:

Lot had settled near Sodom, compromising his spiritual boundaries. Soon, he found himself caught in the crossfire of war and taken captive by invading kings. It was a consequence of being in the wrong place—a direct result of his proximity to a sinful environment.

In an incredible act of courage and loyalty, Abraham rescued Lot. He didn't just free him; Abraham reclaimed everything Lot had lost.

This should’ve been a wake-up call. It should’ve prompted Lot to reconsider his choices and move away from sinful influences. But sadly, Lot returned to Sodom, unchanged by this dramatic rescue. He remained in the very place that nearly destroyed him.

Isn’t this sometimes our story too?

  • We experience God's mercy and grace, yet we quickly return to the same sinful patterns.
  • We’re saved from a toxic situation only to find ourselves back in it again.
  • We cry out to God for deliverance but fail to make lasting changes.

God’s rescue is never meant to leave us unchanged. When He pulls us out of harmful circumstances, it's an invitation to reevaluate our choices, repent of our compromises, and realign with His will.

Don’t waste the rescues God provides. Instead, let His mercy lead you toward transformation.

Questions for Reflection:

  1. Have you ever been rescued by God from a situation, only to return unchanged?
  2. What habits, relationships, or environments do you keep going back to, even though they hinder your growth in Christ?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your continual rescue and grace. Forgive me for returning to the same harmful patterns You saved me from. Help me to respond with genuine repentance and transformation, turning fully toward Your plan for my life. In Jesus' name, amen.

Daily Application:

Reflect honestly today on areas where you’ve experienced God's rescue but resisted change. Take one practical step toward lasting transformation—whether that’s setting boundaries, seeking accountability, or intentionally changing your environment.
