Scripture: “The Hebrew midwives, however, feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt had told them; they let the boys live.” — Exodus 1:17

Devotional Thought:

Before Moses ever speaks to Pharaoh… before the plagues, the Red Sea, or Mount Sinai… there are two women standing between life and death for an entire generation. Shiphrah and Puah, Hebrew midwives, were commanded by Pharaoh to kill every baby boy born to the Israelites.

They refused.

Not because they were powerful or influential. Not because they had an army. They simply feared God more than they feared man. These women weren’t related to the boys they saved. They weren’t acting out of maternal instinct—they were acting out of holy conviction. They chose to protect what God valued, even at personal risk.

Their story reminds us that protection isn’t always loud or dramatic—it’s often found in quiet defiance, in unseen choices, in small acts of courage that ripple into eternity.

You may not face a Pharaoh, but you do face a culture that devalues life, dismisses innocence, and attacks truth. And like the midwives, you’ve been given a choice: Will you follow fear? Or will you follow God?

Reflection Question:

Where is God asking you to stand for life, truth, or someone vulnerable—even if it’s uncomfortable or costly?

Prayer:

God, give me the courage of the midwives. Help me stand for what’s right, even when it’s hard. Teach me to value what You value—and protect what You’ve called precious. Let my fear of You be greater than my fear of anything else. In Jesus’ name, amen.
