Scripture:

Romans 8:18

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.”

Genesis 15:13-14

“Then the Lord said to Abram, ‘Know this for certain: Your offspring will be foreigners in a land that does not belong to them; they will be enslaved and oppressed 400 years. However, I will judge the nation they serve, and afterward they will go out with many possessions.’”

Devotional:

Today, as we conclude this week, let's zoom out and see the broader purpose within the suffering of the Exodus story.

Hundreds of years before Moses, God told Abraham exactly what would happen to his descendants—He foretold their suffering, slavery, and eventual deliverance. None of this took God by surprise. He had a purpose and a plan from the very beginning.

Your suffering might feel random, cruel, or meaningless—but it's not. God is using every painful moment in your life to accomplish something greater, something eternal.

Think about what came from Israel’s suffering:

  • Protection from warfare and cultural compromise
  • Multiplication into a great nation
  • Preparation for the Promised Land
  • Revelation of God’s power and provision

Now apply that perspective to your own struggles. Could God be protecting you from something worse? Could your pain be a setup for a greater blessing? Could it be preparing you—or someone else—for a deeper encounter with Him?

God never wastes our suffering. Just as He redeemed Israel’s suffering in Egypt, He will redeem yours as well.

Questions for Reflection:

  1. How might God be using your current suffering to accomplish something greater?
  2. Who else might benefit spiritually from seeing how you trust God through your suffering?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I trust that there’s purpose beyond the pain I’m experiencing. Help me see beyond my circumstances and recognize Your hand at work. Use my story, my suffering, and my faith to draw others closer to You. Thank You for promising a future glory far greater than today’s struggles. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Daily Application:

Take a moment today to journal or write down one way you’ve already seen God bring something good from past suffering. Keep it visible as a reminder that your current struggle also has a divine purpose—and someday, you'll clearly see His perfect plan.
