HOLY IN SPIRIT
Matthew 20:26–28 - “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life—a ransom for many.”
John 14:12 - “I assure you: The one who believes in Me will also do the works that I do.”
Slow Read (Greatness Redefined)
Read Matthew 20:26–28 three times, slowly.
• First reading: Notice how Jesus redefines greatness.
• Second reading: Notice what He connects to serving — giving His life.
• Third reading: Sit with this phrase: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.”
Remain silent for one full minute.
Let your definition of greatness shift.
Heart Questions

Do I serve only when it’s convenient? |

How do I respond when serving interrupts my plans? |
|
Do I see inconvenience as an obstacle — or an opportunity? |
Let honesty surface without excuse.
Spiritual Insight
Jesus’ serving was rarely convenient. He healed when He was tired. He fed people when He was trying to withdraw. He touched lepers when others stepped back. He washed feet hours before the cross. Serving is easy when it fits our schedule. It is refining when it disrupts it. Inconvenience reveals whether our serving flows from humility or from comfort. The assurance of works in John 14:12 is not about doing impressive things — it is about reflecting the heart of the Son. And the Son served when it cost Him time, energy, and preference. Yielding leads to serving. Serving will require interruption.
Prayer
Jesus, You did not serve when it was easy.
You served when it cost You.
Forgive me for loving comfort more than compassion.
Forgive me for guarding my schedule more than Your calling.
Interrupt me today.
Slow me down enough to see the need in front of me.
Give me eyes to notice.
Give me courage to respond.
Amen.
WHOLE IN MIND — Examine the Reaction
Take 2–3 minutes and ask:
“When was the last time someone’s need interrupted my plan?”
How did I respond internally?
Your first reaction often reveals your real posture.
HEALTHY IN BODY — Serve in the Interruption
Today, you will not schedule service. You will respond to it.
Ask the Spirit to make you aware of one interruption today:
|
Possible Interruptions |
|
A conversation you didn’t plan |
|
A task that isn’t yours |
|
A need that slows you down |
|
Someone asking for help |
|
A family member needing attention |
|
A church responsibility that feels inconvenient |
When it happens, resist the instinct to rush past it.
Pause.
Lower your pace.
Serve fully.
Say quietly:
“This is not an interruption. This is an opportunity.”
Serving in inconvenience trains humility deeper than planned service ever will.
Closing Posture
Comfort serves self.
Inconvenience reveals surrender.
The Son of Man did not come to be served.
Neither did His followers.
