HOLY IN SPIRIT
John 13:12–16 - “Do you know what I have done for you? You call Me Teacher and Lord. This is well said, for I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done for you. I assure you: A servant is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him.”
Matthew 6:4 - “And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
Slow Read (Seen by the Father)
Read John 13:14–16 slowly three times.
• First reading: Notice that Jesus knew who He was — Lord and Teacher.
• Second reading: Notice that He still chose the lowest position.
• Third reading: Sit with this phrase: “A servant is not greater than his master.”
Remain silent for one full minute.
Let humility strip away performance.
Heart Questions
|
Reflection |
|
Do I secretly want recognition when I serve? |
|
Would I still serve if no one knew? |
|
Does my motivation shift when visibility increases? |
Let the Spirit press gently.
Spiritual Insight
Jesus washed their feet knowing betrayal was in the room. Knowing the cross was hours away. Knowing no one would fully understand the depth of what He was doing. He did not post it. He did not announce it. He did not leverage it. He knelt. Hidden service is one of the clearest indicators that pride is losing ground. The works Jesus calls us into are not fueled by applause. They are fueled by love and surrender. If pride is the root of sin, then humble, unseen service is one of the strongest guards against it. The assurance of works is not about platform — it is about transformation. When the Spirit lives in you, serving begins to mark your life. Not perfectly. But progressively.
Prayer
Father, Purify my motives.
Remove the need to be noticed.
Guard me from serving for approval.
Teach me to serve because You see.
Let my obedience be enough — even if no one else knows.
I choose humility over visibility.
Amen.
WHOLE IN MIND — Examine the Motive
Take 2–3 minutes and ask:
“When I imagine serving, what outcome am I hoping for?”
|
Possible Motives |
|
Appreciation |
|
Recognition |
|
Advancement |
|
Affirmation |
|
Control |
|
Genuine love |
Awareness precedes refinement.
HEALTHY IN BODY — Practice Hidden Service
Today you will serve in a way that cannot be traced back to you.
Choose one:
|
Hidden Service |
|
Clean something anonymously |
|
Leave encouragement without your name |
|
Give quietly |
|
Pray intentionally for someone without telling them |
|
Do someone else’s task without announcing it |
Do not tell anyone.
Do not hint.
Do not post.
Do not seek acknowledgment.
As you do it, say quietly: “My Father sees.”
If discomfort rises, that’s pride loosening.
Serving without recognition trains the heart to love what the Father loves — not what the crowd rewards.
Closing Posture
No title.
No applause.
No spotlight.
Just obedience.
And the Father who sees in secret.
