REMINDER #19 – DON’T LET OFFENSE TURN INTO DESTRUCTION

Read Scripture: 1 Samuel 25:9–13; 32–34

(David is disrespected by Nabal after showing him kindness. In anger, David prepares to take revenge, but Abigail intervenes—bringing wisdom and stopping him from unnecessary bloodshed.)

Reality: The wilderness will expose how you respond when your pride is hit. David wasn’t fighting for survival here—he was reacting to disrespect. What started as offense quickly turned into a plan for destruction. That’s what offense does when left unchecked—it grows, it escalates, and it pushes you to act in ways that don’t reflect who God is shaping you to be. In the wilderness, not every battle is yours to fight. Sometimes the greatest strength is restraint. And sometimes God sends the right voice at the right time to keep you from becoming who you used to be.

Response:

  • Where have you recently felt disrespected or offended?

  • How are you tempted to respond—revenge, withdrawal, or pride?

  • Has God placed someone in your life to help guide you toward a better response?

Reaction: Pause before reacting out of emotion. Refuse to let offense dictate your actions.

Listen to wise voices God places around you. Choose restraint over revenge.

Reinforcement: Romans 12:19 – “Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for God’s wrath…”

GOD HANDLES JUSTICE—YOUR ROLE IS OBEDIENCE.

2x2 Check:

Tell your 2x2 where you’ve been offended—and choose restraint instead of reaction.
