The Choice of Slavery

Jude, in his opening greeting, identifies himself not as a sibling of Jesus but as a slave of Jesus Christ. This deliberate choice of words invites us to ponder the profound nature of our relationship with Christ. Unlike earthly slavery, which is imposed and oppressive, the slavery Jude speaks of is a chosen submission to the sovereignty and lordship of Jesus. It is a declaration of total dependence and unwavering trust in Him, recognizing His authority and divinity.

This concept challenges our modern sensibilities, which equate freedom with autonomy. However, in the kingdom of God, true freedom is found in surrender. By becoming slaves to Christ, we are liberated from the tyranny of sin, self, and societal expectations. This paradoxical freedom is the essence of Christian discipleship, where total surrender to Jesus leads to ultimate liberation and life in its fullest.

As we reflect on our own spiritual identities, let us consider what it means to willingly become slaves to Christ. Are we ready to lay down our rights, desires, and plans at His feet? Are we prepared to prioritize His will above our own?
