Scripture

Joshua 3:14–17

“When the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carried the ark of the covenant ahead of the people.

Now the Jordan overflows its banks throughout the harvest season. But as soon as the priests carrying the ark reached the Jordan, their feet touched the water at its edge and the water flowing downstream stood still, rising up in a mass that extended as far as Adam, a city next to Zarethan.

The water flowing downstream into the Sea of the Arabah (the Dead Sea) was completely cut off, and the people crossed opposite Jericho.

The priests carrying the ark of the Lord’s covenant stood firmly on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel crossed on dry ground until the entire nation had finished crossing the Jordan.”

Take a moment to read the passage slowly. If possible, read it again and ask the Holy Spirit to help you notice what God may want to reveal through His Word today.

Testing — What do you notice in the text?

This moment feels familiar.

Once again, God parts the waters. Once again, His people walk through on dry ground. But this time, something is different.

This is a new generation.

The people crossing the Jordan are not the same ones who walked through the Red Sea. They had heard the stories, but now they must experience it for themselves.

God brings them to the edge of the water—not just to remind them of what He did, but to invite them to step into it personally.

Temptation — Where do you see this pattern in life?

It is possible to be close to something without fully stepping into it.

This generation had seen God move in the lives of those before them. They knew the stories. They knew the promises. But they still had to step into the water themselves.

The temptation is to rely on someone else’s faith—someone else’s story, someone else’s experience—without personally surrendering.

We can know about God without fully trusting Him.

Transformation — What might God be shaping in you?

God invites each person to respond.

The waters part when the priests step in. Movement happens when faith becomes action.

Crossing the Jordan becomes a defining moment for this generation. It marks the transition from wandering to entering what God has promised.

In the same way, there are moments in our lives where knowing is not enough. God invites us to step forward—to move from belief into surrender, from awareness into action.

Transformation happens when we respond.

From the Waters to Jesus

Israel passed through the waters again—not because the miracle needed repeating, but because the people needed to experience it for themselves.

Jesus also stepped into the Jordan, not because He needed it, but to fulfill what it represents—and to lead the way for us.

Through His death and resurrection, He made a way for every person to pass through—from death to life, from sin to freedom.

Following Jesus is not something we inherit—it is something we choose.

Each person must step in.

Reflection

Have you personally stepped into the life God is inviting you into, or are you still standing at the edge?

Prayer

Father, thank You that You invite me into a personal relationship with You. Help me not just to know about You, but to trust You fully. Give me the courage to step forward in faith and surrender, knowing that You are faithful to lead me through. Thank You for the new life You offer through Jesus. Amen.
